Switching Driver Packages

How do I switch to a recommended package using Ubuntu 12.04?

Sometimes, there will be two or more packages that contain different versions of the same driver. In some cases, a newer version of a driver (installed by an earlier package) can be upgraded by installing a different package (containing the newest version of the video driver).

To install a specific package on your machine, do the following:

  1. Open Ubuntu Software Center.
  2. In the search box, enter the name of the recommended package. A list of matching package names automatically appears.
  3. Select the recommened package name and click the Install button.
