Saving a Screenshot

Troubleshooting issues may require providing a screen shot to Steam Support

Please follow the instructions below to save a screenshot to your desktop:

  1. Recreate the error or unexpected behavior.
  2. Press the PrtScn key to save a copy of what is being displayed to the clipboard.
  3. Open the Paint program (Start button > Programs > Accessories > Paint) and go to Edit > Paste to paste the contents of the clipboard.
  4. Go to File > Save As... and save the file to your desktop (JPG format is preferred).

  1. Load the game and navigate or play to the point at which the issue occurs.
  2. Press F12 (this is the default Screenshot key) to save a screenshot.
  3. Locate the screenshot image which was created after closing the game (screenshots will be saved to the game folder under your username folder in the SteamApps directory).
    Example: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<your username>\counter-strike\cstrike.

Attaching your screenshot to a Steam Support ticket

  1. Log in to your support account.
  2. Navigate to the 'Your questions' tab (where you would normally write your support tickets).
  3. To attach a file to your ticket, navigate to 'Add Attachment' (underneath the text entry field).
  4. Click 'Add Attachment' to reveal the uploading interface.
  5. Click on the 'Browse' button to locate the file on your computer.
  6. Once you have located the file, select it in the browser window and click 'Open'.

At this point, if you need to upload more than one file, you may do so by clicking 'Attach' and following steps 3 through 6.

Submit your message once you have finished attaching the file(s).

Please follow the instructions below to save a screenshot to your desktop:

  1. Recreate the error or unexpected behavior.
  2. Hold down the APPLE ⌘ and SHIFT keys.
  3. Press 3 for a screen shot of the entire screen.
  4. Press 4 to get "Crosshairs" so you can select just a section of the screen you want a screenshot for.
  5. Press the space bar after you press 4 if you want it to automatically size the screenshot so that it perfectly matches the window it's over. After you press the space bar, a camera icon should come up.
  6. The resulting file will be placed on your desktop.

  3. Locate the screenshot image which was created after closing the game (screenshots will be saved to the game folder under your username folder in the SteamApps directory).

  1. Log in to your support account.

  5. Click on the 'Browse' button to locate the file on your computer.

At this point, if you need to upload more than one file, you may do so by clicking 'Attach' and following steps 3 through 6.

  1. Please follow the instructions below to save a screenshot to your desktop:
  2. Recreate the error or specific behavior
  3. Press the ALT+PRINT SCREEN keys to take a screenshot of the error message as long as it is in main focus
  4. Press SHIFT+PRINT SCREEN to get crosshairs which allow you to drag and select the area which you would like to have a screenshot for
  5. The resulting pop-up will allow you to save the screenshot to a location of your choice. By default it will go in your Pictures folder.

Screenshots of Steam Mobile Issues

Please follow the instructions below to save a screenshot to your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Recreate the error or unexpected behavior.
  2. Press and hold the Home button and then press the Sleep/Wake button to save the image to your camera roll.
  3. If you are using your phone to correspond with Steam support, you can simply attach the photo with the instructions below. If you are using a computer to correspond with Steam support, you will want to export this image to that computer, where you can attach it using the instructions from the respective tab above.
  4. To export this image, navigate to your Photos application. From here, select Camera Roll.
  5. Select the image and export it to the computer you are using to correspond with support.

Attaching your screenshot to a Steam Support ticket on mobile

  1. Log in to your support account.
  2. Navigate to the 'Your questions' tab (where you would normally write your support tickets).
  3. To attach a file to your ticket, navigate to 'Add Attachment' (underneath the text entry field).
  4. Press 'Add Attachment' then 'Choose File' to reveal the uploading interface.
  5. Select 'Photo Library' to browse for the image in the 'Camera Roll' folder.
  6. Once you have located the image, select it and it will be attached.

At this point, if you need to upload more than one file, you may do so by clicking 'Attach' and following steps 3 through 6.

Submit your message once you have finished attaching the file(s).

Screenshots of Steam Mobile Issues

Please follow the instructions below to save a screenshot to your Android device:

  1. Android devices support a number of different methods of screen capturing. The one below is supported by most Android devices, but you have to check for other alternatives if it does not work.
  2. Recreate the error or unexpected behavior.
  3. Press and hold both the Power button and the Volume Down button simultaenously to save the image to your photo library.
  4. If you are using your phone to correspond with Steam support, you can simply attach the photo with the instructions below. If you are using a computer to correspond with Steam support, you will want to export this image to that computer, where you can attach it using the instructions from the respective tab above.

  1. Log in to your support account.
  2. Navigate to the 'Your questions' tab (where you would normally write your support tickets).
  3. To attach a file to your ticket, navigate to 'Add Attachment' (underneath the text entry field).
  4. Press 'Add Attachment' then 'Choose File' to reveal the uploading interface.
  5. Select 'Documents' to browse for the image in the 'MyDrive Image' folder. Because of the variety of Android devices, this location may vary.
  6. Once you have located and selected the image, select attach.

At this point, if you need to upload more than one file, you may do so by clicking 'Attach' and following steps 3 through 6.
