Installing Flash to work with Steam's WebKit

My Steam browser is unable to play Flash, what can I do to fix this?

With the latest Steam update, we moved on using an open-source browser called WebKit. Many users will need to install the latest version of Flash for Other Browsers.

Installing Flash for Other Browsers on Windows

  • Visit the Flash for Other Browsers page
  • Select Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008/2003/2000 from the drop down menu
  • Select the radio button that says Flash Player 11 for Windows - Other Browsers
  • Click on Agree and install now
  • Follow the on-screen instructions until Flash 11 is installed
  • Start Steam and test the browser

If you have already installed Flash using the method above and are still unable to view Flash content in Steam, your Flash installation may be corrupt. Please do the following to perform a clean installation of Flash:

  • Click Start > Control Panel
  • In Windows XP, open Add/Remove Programs. In Windows Vista or 7, open Programs and Features.
  • Locate Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin then select it and select Uninstall.
  • Allow the uninstallation process to complete, then reinstall Flash Player as per the instructions above.

Installing Flash for Other Browsers on Mac

  • Visit the Flash for Other Browsers page
  • Select Macintosh OS X 10.4 - 10.6 from the drop down menu
  • Select the radio button that says Flash Player 11 for Mac OS X
  • Click on Agree and install now
  • Follow the on-screen instructions until Flash 11 is installed
  • Start Steam and test the browser

Note:

Adobe Flash Player 10 for other browsers is also compatible with Steam's Webkit and can be installed as well.
