Issues and Fixes


Downloadable Content (DLC)

Downloadable content will not be listed as a separate entry in your Steam games list.

To view the additional content for this game that is registered to your account, please do the following:

  1. Log in to Steam
  2. Navigate to your Library list
  3. Right-click on Borderlands 2
  4. Select "View downloadable content"

Any DLC that is listed in this window has already been downloaded and integrated with Borderlands 2. If you are having trouble accessing this content, please contact Borderlands Support for specific instructions for locating the content in-game.


Secondary Installers

Aside from verifying your game cache and checking your connection with Steam, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

If you're encountering issues with launching Borderlands 2, make sure everything installed smoothly.

Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your Borderlands 2 installation folder (Usually C:\Program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\)

Run the following installers:

  • ...\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Redist\DXRedistCutdown\DXSETUP.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Redist\vcredist_2005_x86.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Redist\vcredist_2005_atl_x86.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Redist\vcredist_x86.exe.exe
  • ...\Steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Redist\dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe

Reboot your computer and test any issues again. If you continue to encounter any issues, contact Borderlands 2 support.


OS Specific Troubleshooting

If the above does not resolve the issue and you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, please complete the instructions in our Windows 7 and Vista Troubleshooting FAQ.

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:

  1. Exit Steam.
  2. Go to the Start menu, select Run, type regedit and click OK.
  3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  4. Right click and select Permissions
  5. Check the Allow boxes for Admin and System for both Full control and Read.
