Issues and Fixes

Verifying your game files

If you're encountering issues when launching or playing FTL, make sure everything installed correctly.

Start by checking your connection with Steam and then try verifying your game cache. Reboot your computer and test the issue again. If the issue persists, contact FTL support.

This game's soundtrack will be downloaded automatically whenever the game is installed. By default, you can find the sountrack in the following locations:

For a PC:

  • ...\Steam\steamapps\common\FTL Faster Than Light\FTL - Original Soundtrack\

For a Mac:

  • ...\Users\[username]\Library\Application Support\Steam\Steamapps\common\FTL\FTL - Original Soundtrack\

In order to be able to access the folder in which Steam resides on OSX 10.7 (Lion) please do the following:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type chflags nohidden ~/Library
  3. Close Terminal

You should now see your Library available in Finder if you click on Go > Library in the menu bar while holding down the option key.

OS Specific Troubleshooting

If the above does not resolve the issue and you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, please complete the instructions in our Windows 7 and Vista Troubleshooting FAQ.

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:

  1. Exit Steam.
  2. Go to the Start menu, select Run, type regedit and click OK.
  3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  4. Right click and select Permissions
  5. Check the Allow boxes for Admin and System for both Full control and Read.
